End Season

Image
It's the fourth quarter, and things have been tense. For a few weeks, I've been so close to finding peace. It didn't feel like a blur because I was well aware that my junior year was drawing to a close. Since the thought that everything will be accomplished soon nagged at me, I continued to be worried, losing interest in completing my responsibilities.    I've experienced challenges that have made it difficult for me to do my assignments. I've always been lazy, and it's been with me since the beginning of my distance learning experience. I feel even more lazy as vacation approaches, causing me to cram and postpone my schoolwork. I will continue to push myself to be more diligent in my education, regardless of my bad habits.    Moving on, despite several problems, this current distant learning system is complete for this school year, but I can't say I favor it. Face-to-face learning is still my preference because it ensures that I am learning and i...

Restore what has been destroyed

Image
Every human, living thing, creature, organic and material things influence each other directly and indirectly in the environment where we live, and are subject to one another for a share of the other supply. Our ecosystem and climate are not the same as they were previously. The equilibrium of organic and real structures has broken as a result of our exploitation of the climate. Unintentional deforestation, hunting of wild animals, contamination of air and water as a result of mechanical events, an increase in global temperature change as a result of the use of harmful gear, and several other factors are included.    The way we are leaving normally today is causing equal to our environment. Our environment's natural resources are finite; if we continue to use them in this manner, the day will come when we won't be able to breathe pure air. Electronic devices in our houses emit carbon dioxide, which has an impact on the environment. Many additional man-made...

Viva! Binatbatan Festival!

Image
The procedure of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving is known as "binatbatan." Locals regarded this as an occupational dance involving two sticks known as "batbat." During the week-long festival, the Binabatan street dance is one of the primary attractions.     The Binatbatan Festival has traditionally been a year-round event with a wide range of activities that attract a significant number of visitors and locals. The festival honors culture and infuses the city, as well as the province as a whole, with vitality. Last year, though, the fast-spreading pandemic disrupted the annual festivities. Events were canceled and the celebration was dampened due to the potential of the illness spreading among the participants. The Binatbatan Festival is in its second year, right in the heart of the pandemic. The festival's success was ensured through a variety of activities. The Binatbatan street dance was aired using online streaming sites like Face...

Do you Juana? "The Evolution of Women!"

Image
In the past, women were treated unjustly, they did not have the freedom and rights they truly deserve as if they were weaker gender. Back then women were only supposed to be inside their house’s, doing household choirs, and taking care of their own children. They were forbidden to go outside, be the “breadwinner” of the family, and have education. They were not allowed to vote, and be part of any political matters. Women were robbed of their self-confidence and self-respect, and were made totally dependent on men. Women were treated as slaves of men. Making women think that males are the superior and the dominant specie.  Being able to live in a religiously free environment, having a say in the government you fund with your taxes, and not being enslaved by another person for the rest of your life. Many people used to think these ideas about how living should and must be lived were foolish. Visionaries, on the other hand, held these convictions with zeal, and the...

Season 3?

Image
I learned how to do community-based research during the third quarter of the 2020-2021 academic year. Despite the difficulties, I was able to collect data quickly because many elders are easy to talk to. I had a hard time adjusting when modular distance learning was first established. But now that the third quarter of the school year is through, I've gotten the feel of it.   We're almost there, all the sleepless and stressful nights will all be worth it. Now, I'm just a quarter of the way through my junior high school career, although digitally. For the upcoming quarter, I'm looking forward to more challenging but yet simple classes.

The Day of Valor

Image
The Day of Valor, or Araw ng Kagitingan, honors the valor of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II's Japanese invasion of the Philippines. At dawn on April 9, 1942, US Army Major General Edward P. King was forced to surrender approximately 76,000 Filipinos, Chinese, and American forces to the Japanese. The soldiers were compelled to walk 90 miles (145 kilometers) to Camp O'Donnell in San Fernando. Thousands of inmates died of starvation, thirst, and infections during the walk to the camp (also known as the Bataan Death March).   Despite their challenges, the Filipinos were able to beat their shared foe by joining together and seeking the help of Americans. The island of Bataan was spared devastation.  Araw ng Kagitingan is a non-working holiday in the Philippines that falls on a long weekend. The primary highlight of the Araw ng Kagitingan is when the Philippines' president delivers a speech at the Mt Samat shrine in Bataan province to commemorate th...

"Would you?"

The Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has made a humongous impact to the world. This pernicious virus has affected many people and also took many lives. It’s been more than a year since this horrendous pandemic affected many lives. When the number of active cases proliferated on January 30,2020, authorities decided to find a solution to this economic disaster. To reduce the rate of people getting infected by this virus, the government has implemented lockdowns with strong containment measures. Unfortunately, isolating ourselves in our own homes isn’t enough in dealing with this virus. The best way to fight the virus is finding a cure to it, over-the-counter drugs and simple remedies isn’t enough to treat and to completely prevent the spread of this fatal disease. In order to prevent a virus from infecting someone’s body one must be immune to this said disease. Immunity to a disease is achieved through the presence of antibodies to that disease in a person’s system. Anti-bodies are p...

"Lenten Season"

Image
The Lenten season is a 40-day period preceding Easter in the Christian calendar. Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday, is a season of reflection and preparation leading up to the Easter celebrations. Christians imitate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and 40-day retreat into the wilderness by observing Lent for 40 days. Fasting, both from food and from festivities, is a feature of Lent.    We were unable to carry out our religious rituals throughout the Lenten Season, which was disappointing. We couldn't participate in customary rituals like waving the palaspas or visiting the church, but thanks to technology, we were able to attend an online mass and pray the Holy Rosary. We should be grateful to the Almighty since he protected us during the pandemic.   The Lenten Season is a time for us to refresh and reflect on our connection with God, as well as remembering God's sorrows, such as being nailed to the Cross. It allows us to keep track of ho...

A WOMAN

Image
Women's Day was first observed on March 19, 1911, however due to an accident, the date had to be rescheduled. This exposed the unfair labor practices and harsh working circumstances that women suffer, sparking a wave of demonstrations. In December 1977, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution designating a United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace, to be marked by Member States on every day of the year, according to their historical and national traditions. This will highlight 12 key areas of concern in order to safeguard women from experiencing these issues. It is commemorated every year, and many local governments are likely to post on a variety of channels to keep us updated. Last month, I spotted a promotion with a Covid-19 pandemic-themed poster. The focus of this year's commemoration is on women's contributions to the pandemic fight. Raising awareness of gender issues, which became more visi...

The second chapter of the school year

Image
Another quarter has passed, and another one is yet to be unlocked. In this quarter, we have learned the basic uses of HTML tags. At first, I was puzzled about the topic because it very new to me. I kept doing it wrong, I didn’t understand the notes given to us as a guide in doing the activities. It was a struggle for me, good thing I have my friends to help me. They were there to help enlighten me about our topic.           I’m happy that my skills in writing have improved a lot, probably because of the blogs we compose weekly. I have gained confidence in sharing my own opinions in the world of social media. I was also enlightened about the festivals, history, and culture of our own province, the province of Ilocos Sur. I pretty much enjoyed every topic we have learned in the subject of ICT.           In the next quarter of this school year, I will try my best to improve more. I will try ...

Page 45 of the book titled “A year”

Image
On the 14 th day of February, day 45 of the year, there is an annually celebrated day called “Valentine’s day” also addressed as “St. Valentine’s Day”. It is a tradition where people show different kinds of gesture and languages in expressing their love or affection for their significant other or loved ones.             On this day of the year, you can see couples on the street holding hands, taking pictures, and other romantic stuff. Some people say that Valentine’s day are only celebrated by people with significant others. No, this day isn’t only meant for couples, this day is about love. People commonly think that love is only between two peoples, but that is not the whole meaning of love. It could also be the love you give or receive from your loved ones. It also shows compassion and kindness to others.                This day isn’t celebrated for couples, it can b...

Kannawidan Festival: One of the Ilocanos’ Pride

Image
The Philippines has many of festivals, both major and minor, with at least one particular celebration occurring almost every day of the year. Filipinos absolutely love getting together to celebrate and share our rich culture and treasures with the rest of the world.           Celebrating feasts and festivals is part of our culture and tradition as Filipinos. We have a lot of unique and different festivals all over the world, in each region, where people can see and experience different things. Most festivals in the Philippines are religious in origin, but the religious element is traditionally secondary to the general spirit of celebration nowadays.           Different festivals are annually celebrated in different provinces in our country. As an Ilocano I would gladly share to you the pride of the Ilocan...

“Viva Vigan!”

Image
Festivals, of several sorts, work both to fulfill specific needs and to provide entertainment. For religious, social, or geographical classes, these periods of celebration give a sense of belonging. Modern festivals based on cultural or ethnic subjects aim to remind members of their culture or tradition. In previous times, festivals were times when the elderly discussed stories and passed to the next generation some knowledge. Cultural feasts have also offered a way for families to meet and for people to find friends. To celebrate previous significant events, select anniversaries have annual festivals. The Philippines has so many festivals, these festivals celebrating moments in history that defined identity, polity and locality. The Philippines has over 42,000 festivals annually celebrated. These festivals are times when and where people gather, the same occasions when funds become generous for government units and the private sector. Fiestas are significant avenues for a...

"New Year New Me"

Image
2020 was a very tough year for me. Unexpected events came and it caused me both pain and happiness, some of those events badly affected my mental health and its stability. Caused me to be unproductive and unmotivated in doing the things I loved before, I became lazy and irresponsible. I’ve gained and lost many people back in 2020.           This year I’m going to change and grow, I’m going to bring out the better version of myself. I’m going to face all the challenges this year is going to bring. I’m going to be courageous, I’ll face all my weaknesses and fears. We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges life will bring us.           They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. This year I will make myself a better person. It’s time to say goodbye to the old version of ourselves and say hello to the new and better one.

We can and We will!

Before the new method of learning started, I underestimated its state of quality. I expected that this kind of learning method would be easier than the old method which is face-to-face learning, for the reason that I can effortlessly access various resources that might come on handy, one of these resources is something we mostly use today which is the internet. But my expectations turned around to the opposite direction. In this quarter, I've already learned a lot to be honest. I have gained knowledge from all the subjects, I even discovered things I didn't thought I'm capable of doing. I also discovered many things about myself that I haven't know before. The most stressful challenge I needed to cope-with in this quarter is Procrastination and laziness or lack of productivity. My unproductiveness is the reason why I'm struggling on answering modules and passing them on time. I always cram on finishing my modules and I hated this habit so much, I would have a ...

Raise awareness for Climate Change

Image
Climate change, It's the fundamental theme of our time, and we're at a defining moment. From evolving weather patterns that threaten food production to increasing sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, climate change impacts are global in nature and unprecedented in scope. Without immediate action now, it will be more difficult and costly to respond to these impacts in the future. Because of human activities the Earth has gotten warmer for the past 50 to 100 years. An example of this are caused by greenhouses, greenhouse gasses occur naturally and are important to the existence of humans. They prevent some of the warmth of the sun from reflecting back into space and making Earth viable. The volume of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere has risen to record levels not seen in three million years. Gases emitted by greenhouses have high impacts on the climate and our health. By tra...

Is the Simultaneous Earthquake Drill important?

Image
Earthquakes, it is a sudden slip that is caused by a fault. The tectonic plates are still slowly moving, but due to friction, they get trapped at certain edges. There is an earthquake when the stress on the edge overcomes the friction that releases energy through waves that move through the earth's surface and cause the shaking we feel. Earthquakes sometimes happen when we least expect it, that is one of the reasons why we need to be prepared when this kind of event occur. Last September, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday announced. The Government has declared that NDRRMC, along with the Civil Defense Office, in cooperation with various national and local agencies, will conduct a nationwide coordinated earthquake drill to help us participate in this broad-based drill to better prepare for disaster strikes. Students and teacher are required to participate to this virtual event, this eve...

"Listen to our voices!"

Image
Because of the virus outbreak of Covid-19, the government had no other choice but to shut down the school to keep students isolated and safe against the virus. Parents and students start to worry about the education of students and pupils. Asking the question “How would we provide quality education for students during this pandemic”. Education systems all around the world start to find a salient solution to this concern. The government solution to quality education of students is home-schooling or online class. Students access information about given topics and lessons on the web or the internet, but not all students can access the internet. Many students are struggling and complaining about the education system because they couldn’t afford or don’t have the right equipment in home-schooling and online classes, some are also struggling because of the unstable connection of networks. Not only the students are struggling with this matter but also the teachers. Not all teachers and st...

“We need a resilient Philippines”

Image
At the present time , no one or any country is not vulnerable from disasters and losses due to disasters. These disasters include acts of terrorism, natural disasters, as well as the world is actually facing today, which is an epidemic of a viral infectious diseases called Covid-19. These all contribute to tremendous consequences for the country and the people. Our nation then faces tough decisions, whether intentional attacks or natural-causing disasters, to better ensure protection and quality of life against such horrible disasters. Developing resilience is one of the best factors that will allow a nation to be more vulnerable or become resilient to disasters may come in the future. A nation that has a capability to propose a plan in advance to disastrous events that may occur in the future will have a great capability in handling a crisis well, as well as having preparedness in responding after the disaster hits. The nation should be prepared in what disaster make occur in the...

“The President should prioritize what needs to be prioritized!”

Image
Dear President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,      The government conducts many programs and projects, some are very beneficial to the people but some projects are not. I would gladly express my opinion about the so called “white sand manila bay” project.      What is the beneficial purpose of the project? Is it to please the eyes of many people or to make the bay more presentable? Yes, the new version of the manila bay seems to be more pleasing than before, however did you research any harmful or dangerous effects of the material used in the “white sand manila bay” project? The material used in the project is an Anhydrous Carbonate mineral composed of Calcium Magnesium Carbonate, commonly known as Dolomite, Experts say this mineral is a threat to marine life; it is harmful to creature living in the water and along the shores of the bay. The mineral is also dangerous to humans when accidentally ingested. It is also a total waste of people’s money, that amount of ...
