Is the Simultaneous Earthquake Drill important?

Earthquakes, it is a sudden slip that is caused by a fault. The tectonic plates are still slowly moving, but due to friction, they get trapped at certain edges. There is an earthquake when the stress on the edge overcomes the friction that releases energy through waves that move through the earth's surface and cause the shaking we feel.

Earthquakes sometimes happen when we least expect it, that is one of the reasons why we need to be prepared when this kind of event occur. Last September, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday announced. The Government has declared that NDRRMC, along with the Civil Defense Office, in cooperation with various national and local agencies, will conduct a nationwide coordinated earthquake drill to help us participate in this broad-based drill to better prepare for disaster strikes. Students and teacher are required to participate to this virtual event, this event will help students and teachers to strengthen their preparedness when an Earthquake hits. Effects of earthquakes may vary from small to large-scales depending on the intensity of the quake, the shaking of the ground may increase that can trigger both landslides and tsunamis, aftershocks may also occur. Participating in this drill will give you advantages in facing Earthquake. When you are prepared it will lessen your anxiety and fear when quakes occur.

Participating in this drill programs may save you and others lives one day, it will help us be vigilant in what we should and shouldn’t do when earthquakes strike.
