Viva! Binatbatan Festival!

The procedure of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving is known as "binatbatan." Locals regarded this as an occupational dance involving two sticks known as "batbat." During the week-long festival, the Binabatan street dance is one of the primary attractions.

The Binatbatan Festival has traditionally been a year-round event with a wide range of activities that attract a significant number of visitors and locals. The festival honors culture and infuses the city, as well as the province as a whole, with vitality. Last year, though, the fast-spreading pandemic disrupted the annual festivities. Events were canceled and the celebration was dampened due to the potential of the illness spreading among the participants. The Binatbatan Festival is in its second year, right in the heart of the pandemic. The festival's success was ensured through a variety of activities. The Binatbatan street dance was aired using online streaming sites like Facebook and Youtube. To avoid the spread of the virus, other events were canceled, and public gatherings were restricted to a bare minimum.

Despite the fact that we are in the midst of a pandemic, the administrators of Vigan City did not forget to commemorate the occasion and found a healthy and safe manner to do so.
